Let’s continue on with the “perfect” theme! I keep an eye on a silly holiday calendar of mine, and when I saw today is National Play-Doh Day, it just made me smile! I have nothing but happy memories of playing with playdough as a little kid. Open up a container of Play-Doh, take a sniff – and you’re 5 years old again, am I right?
In honor of the holiday, I’ll share the playdough recipe our family used when I was a little girl. I’ve tried other homemade playdough recipes, but I always come back to this one that uses alum. It really is the best.
:::
Homemade Playdough
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 T alum
3 T oil
2 cups boiling water
liquid food coloring
Mix flour, salt, alum, and oil. Add water and knead to desired consistency. Add food coloring. Add more flour if the dough is sticky (between 2-4 T). Store in a sealed container in the fridge.

Now that you’ve got your playdough, let your imagination run wild! Challenge your family members to join you in a Playdough Palooza and take pictures of your amazing creations! (Click here for a book by the same name to inspire you.) This can be a fun, easy and inexpensive way to have fun with the family.
